Local Tea Party Heckles Grieving Family

The world of politics can be a passionate and vicious place. But some people take their attacks too far, crossing the lines of human decency. Dan and Midge Hough of Chicago unfortunately had to meet those sort of people on November 14.

Chicago Tea Party Leader Threatens to Shoot Blogger

Over the past week I have been cyber-stalked by Catherina Wojtowicz, leader of the Chicago Tea Party Patriots. Apparently Catherina Wojtowicz is unhappy with my reporting on the Chicago Tea Party’s 912 march, as well as the march that occurred in Washington DC. As I have recently reported, Catherina Wojtowicz expelled me from the Chicago Tea for my accurate reporting of the Chicago march. Her efforts to fudge the numbers do not serve the movement well. Because of what I have witnessed at the Tea events which I have attended, combined with this recent cyber-stalking, I’ve had just about enough tea to fill my gut. If these are the types of people leading the movement, have at it. Personally, I would not follow Catherina Wojtowicz’s directions to the nearest restroom, let alone follow her in a political movement. I’ll watch from here.

Catherina Wojtowicz: What The Tea Does Not Need

This is Catherina Wojtowicz telling me I’m out and why. Catherina, and some others, were claiming 900 to 1100 people, which is stretching the truth by more than double. I can’t consciously do that just to pump up my political position.

  • You are a loser from the word go.
  • And BTW, you do realize you are a fucking roofer…
  • Omg………….. Get real…………
  • “Call the fucking Washington DC police department and the US Coast Guard”
  • “your estimates were baseless and incorrect”
  • “Your reporting and comments are incorrect — that is why they are being deleted.”
  • “Your reporting is sub par and I will not let you use my forum as a way to distribute false information.”
  • You can stand in the park.  But you are not invited as a member.
I am deeply disappointed by Catherina’s poor leadership and organizational skills, as well as how quickly she descended into personal attacks and false allegations (of which the above is only a small sample). All I was doing was trying to help, and being truthful. If that’s all it takes for people to be kicked out of the Chicago Tea Party, this is a very bad sign indeed.

Tea Party Patriots Attack Family Who Lost Daughter And Grandchild

A group called the Chicago Tea Party Patriots publicly heckled a grieving family and suggested that the couple fabricated their tragic story. At a town hall held by Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.) on Nov. 14,, Dan and Midge Hough spoke about how they believed the death of their daughter-in-law and her unborn child were caused, in part, by a lack of health insurance. Twenty-four-year old Jennifer was uninsured. According to her in-laws, she was not receiving regular prenatal care and was not properly treated when she got sick. She ended up in an emergency room with double pneumonia that developed into septic shock, had a heart attack, a brain bleed and a stroke. The baby died and Jennifer died a few weeks later. Midge Hough was heckled by anti-reform crowd members. "You can laugh at me, that's okay," she said, crying. "But I lost two people, and I know you think that's funny, that's okay."

Low Tea Party moment symbolic of muddy week

Last week while researching claims from a local Tea Party activist, I found myself asking a family for proof that they had lost an unborn grandchild.

Their daughter-in-law, Jenny, and an unborn grandchild died recently due in part, they believe, to a lack of health insurance. They said Jenny was not receiving regular prenatal care and ended up in an emergency room with double pneumonia that developed into septic shock. Her baby died in the womb, and Jenny died a few weeks later, leaving behind a husband and a 2-year-old daughter.

Catherina Wojtowicz, of Chicago's Mount Greenwood community, an organizer for a Tea Party splinter group, Chicago Tea Party Patriots, falsely claimed that the Houghs fabricated their story. In an e-mail, she called them operatives of President Barack Obama who "go from event to event and (cry) the same story."

When the Houghs spoke at the Lipinski event, some Tea Partiers ridiculed them. They moaned and rolled their eyes and interrupted. Midge Hough began to cry.

"What we are talking about is the bill," she said. "We've all had family members pass away, but would this health care bill really have prevented (Jenny's) death? We do question it."

It certainly was a low mark in a very dark week. What could be more illustrative of our state's political marshland than openly mocking a grieving family?
